First Wave Project gives free first surf experiences to people who never thought surfing was for them.
One wave can shift how someone sees themselves, the ocean, and what’s possible.
SUPPORT THE PROJECT. GIVE A FIRST WAVE Today
Your support puts someone on a board who never thought they could.
SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY,
DOUBT GOT LOUDER THAN POSSIBILITY
Too old. Too heavy. Too scared. Not athletic enough.
What if one wave was enough?
Enough to change how someone sees themselves.
The impact doesn’t stop in the water
People leave the water standing a little taller.
Surfing is for everyone.
WHO WE ARE
First Wave Project was created by three lifelong surfers from Oʻahu — Buddy Wiggins, Zach Murphy, and Isaiah Moniz — with a simple idea: surfing should be shared, not guarded.
We invite everyday people off the streets of O’ahu and take them surfing for the very first time, completely free. No booking, no payment, no catch. Just the ocean, a board, and someone willing to say yes.
Many of the people we meet believe they are too old, too heavy, too unfit, too scared, or simply not “the surfing type.” Some are struggling with confidence, addiction, depression, or feeling invisible. One wave often changes that.
This project is not a surf school and does not compete with local instructors. We work with respect for the existing surf community and focus only on people who would never book a lesson on their own.
